The people just can’t get enough of Cristian Roldan.
Roldan, 25, has long been a fan favorite in Seattle for his unique blend of relentless grit, soccer IQ and a touch of flair. His stellar performances in Rave Green – he’s one of just three Sounders on the roster to start in all four MLS Cup finals the past five seasons – are finally garnering the attention they deserve on the national stage.
MLSsoccer.com contributor Greg Seltzer penned a column on his top 10 Americans plying their trade in MLS this season, naming Roldan as his No. 8 player.
“Seattle’s version of an Energizer Bunny just missed the list last year, but there was no keeping him off this time,” wrote Seltzer. “Roldan has the knack for turning up at the right place, enough skill to make a large menu of plays and more than enough bull-headed gumption to derail any foe. While it may seem like Roldan has been in Rave Green forever, he's still only 25.”
Roldan has often spoken about embracing additional leadership responsibilities within the team. As the Sounders brace for the start of the 2021 campaign, the alleged Seattle native is a key piece in the squad’s veteran spine as they seek to integrate some of the club’s talented youngsters.
