Major League Soccer on Tuesday named Seattle Sounders forward Alex Roldan to the Week 14 Team of the Week following his excellent display against Charlotte FC on Sunday.
After dominating the opening period of the match against Charlotte, the visitors took a 1-0 lead against the run of play courtesy of Ben Bender's goal when a free kick rebounded off the post. Seattle continued to push for the equalizer throughout the match, coming close on several occasions, but were unable to find the breakthrough.
That all changed in the 72nd minute as Roldan cut the ball back onto his left foot and curled a picture-perfect cross to Jordan Morris, who headed the ball inside the near post to make it 1-1. Just eight minutes later, Raúl Ruidíaz smashed an absolute golazo into the top corner to secure three massive points.
In addition to Roldan's offensive contributions -- he led the team with six shot creating actions, including three key passes -- the right back posted one tackle, two blocks and five interceptions as the Sounders kept Charlotte's attack quiet.
Roldan and the Sounders will return to action on June 14 (7:30 p.m. PT; FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM | TICKETS) as they host the Vancouver Whitecaps at Lumen Field.
