Seattle Sounders midfielder Albert Rusnák earned a place as a starter on the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 25 following the club's 2-0 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday, while goalkeeper Stefan Frei was named to the bench.
This mark's Rusnák's third consecutive inclusion on the Team of the Matchday. The attacking midfielder tallied an assist on the opening goal against New England in the 15th minute, playing a perfectly weighted through-ball to Jordan Morris, who finished from close range. Rusnák then iced the match in the 81st minute with a powerful shot into the bottom corner from outside the box. The Slovakian midfielder is enjoying a rich vein of form, posting four goals and seven assists from his last eleven starts.
With the 2-0 win over New England, Frei recorded his 110th MLS regular-season shutout, good for third all-time in league history. After Seattle scored the opener early, the visitors grew into the match and created several quality opportunities for an equalizer. But each time they were repelled by individual heroics from Frei. He finished the evening with four saves, with the highlight being a spectacular double-save in the 35th minute to deny a pair of shots from inside the box.
The Seattle Sounders return to action on Tuesday night as they visit Sacramento Republic (8:00 p.m. PT; Watch free on Apple TV, 950 KJR AM) in the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals.
