10-Man Sounders FC 2 suffers 6-0 defeat to Reno 1868 FC

EZ 5.20

RENO, NEVADA - Sounders FC 2 (4-5-1, 13 points) fell by a score of 6-0 on the road against Reno 1868 FC on Saturday evening. Reno's Dane Kelly recorded a hat trick in a seven-minute span, including two from the penalty spot, as Reno handed the Rave Green their fifth defeat of the 2017 USL campaign. Next week, S2 returns to Starfire Stadium to host Sacramento Republic FC on Sunday afternoon (2:00 p.m. PT / Live-Stream on SoundersFC.com).

Kelly scored the first of his three goals in the 28th minute, when he received a curling through-ball in open space in front of the net and pushed his shot past Seattle's Bryan Meredith. Three minutes later, referee Chipalo Street whistled a penalty on a foul in the area by Meredith, as Kelly converted the ensuing penalty from the spot. In the 35th minute, Street once again awarded a penalty to Reno, this time on a challenge from Seattle's Rodrigue Ele. Kelly coolly slotted home the kick to complete the first-half hat trick. The foul marked Ele's second yellow card of the match, forcing S2 to play the final 55 minutes with a one-man disadvantage.

Just before halftime, Reno 1868 capitalized with a goal by Lindo Mfeka just before halftime after S2 was unable to cleanly clear the ball in front of its own net. In the 48th minute, the host side extended its lead to 5-0 on a goal by Seth Casiple, who knocked in a chipped cross from Dembakwi Yomba.

In the final play of the match, former Sounders FC defender Jimmy Ockford scored on a header to make the score 6-0.  Reno 1868 FC's lineup also featured former S2 goalkeeper Matt Bersano, who recorded the shutout.

S2 returns to action next Sunday at home against Sacramento Republic FC. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT.
