SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Tacoma Defiance (2-4-1, 7 points) fell 3-1 to Sacramento Republic FC (4-1-3, 15 points) on Saturday evening at Papa Murphy’s Park. Sam Rogers scored the lone goal for Tacoma, who lost its second consecutive match following a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) after the league’s restart. Defiance currently sits eight points back of Sacramento and Reno in the standings for Group A, the four-team group created after USL’s resumption of play following the COVID-19 shutdown.
SRFC scored all three of its goals in the opening 45 minutes, including a brace from Dariusz Formella in the 14th and 41st minutes. Cameron Iwasa also added a goal in the 33rd minute for the home side. Rogers scored his first goal of the season in the 50th minute on an assist from Chino Pérez. Tacoma Defiance now travels to Las Vegas for a matchup with the Lights on Wednesday, August 19 (7:00 p.m. / ESPN+).
