TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance secured a spot in the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs this evening, with Earthquakes II falling 5-2 to St. Louis City SC 2. After defeating Sporting Kansas City II 1-0 last night, tonight’s result clinched the Pacific Division title for Defiance, sending Tacoma to the postseason.
It marks the first postseason appearance for Defiance since 2015 while playing in the United Soccer League as S2. Tacoma narrowly missed the USL Championship playoffs last year after being eliminated on the final day of the 2021 regular season. Tacoma still has a chance to finish atop all of MLS NEXT Pro, currently at 46 points, one point above St. Louis City SC 2 and two points above Columbus Crew 2 with three matches left to play.
Following yesterday’s win, Tacoma now hits the road for a matchup against Real Monarchs at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, August 26 (6:00 p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
