AUSTIN, TEXAS – Tacoma Defiance (1-1-1, 5 points) lost 2-1 to Austin FC II (2-0-1, 7 points) Friday evening at Parmer Field. Abdoulaye Cissoko scored the lone goal for Defiance before two second-half Austin goals sent Tacoma home empty handed.
Tacoma got on the board first in the 22nd minute courtesy of a Cissoko penalty kick. Eythor Bjørgolfsson drew the foul in the area after being pushed down while attempting to get his head on a Paul Rothrock cross. Cissoko calmly sent the Austin goalkeeper the wrong way, sliding the ball into the left side of the net for his third goal of the year.
Tacoma’s Travian Sousa was shown a second yellow card in the 66th minute, sending Defiance down a man for the remainder of the match. Austin equalized later via a penalty of its own after Tacoma committed a handball in the area. Austin’s Alonso Ramírez slipped the ball past the outstretched hand of Defiance’s Andrew Thomas to level the match in the 84th minute.
Austin took the lead in the dying moments of the match when Christo Vela poked home a rebound to seal the game for the home side.
Following tonight's result, Wade Webber’s side travels back to Texas to take on Houston Dynamo 2 at AVEVA Stadium on Sunday, April 23 (4:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV).
