HOUSTON, TEXAS – Tacoma Defiance (2-1-1, 8 points) defeated Houston Dynamo 2 (1-3-1, 5 points) 2-1 Sunday evening at SaberCats Stadium. Hal Udertiz and Gio Miglietti scored the goals for Defiance to send the club home with all three points.
Following a scoreless first half, Houston struck first via a penalty kick in the 48th minute. After a Houston attacker was pushed down inside the box, Roberto Avila converted the ensuring penalty for the lead.
Tacoma equalized 20 minutes later via penalty of its own, as Uderitz calmly converted for his third goal of the year. Houston’s Isaiah LeFlore committed a foul inside his own area in the 69th minute to cause the penalty. The foul resulted in LeFlore's second yellow of the match, sending Dynamo 2 down to 10 men for the remainder of the contest.
The match remained level until the dying moments when Travian Sousa sent in a cross to the front of goal that deflected off a Houston defender and its goalkeeper before falling to the feet of Miglietti for the short-range strike. The goal marked Miglietti's first of the year.
Following today’s result, Wade Webber’s side returns to Starfire Stadium for its second home match of the season, taking on Galaxy II on Sunday, April 30 at Starfire Stadium (8:00 p.m. PT / MLSNEXTPro.com).
