CARSON, CALIF. – Tacoma Defiance (8-3-6, 33 points) drew 1-1 with LA Galaxy II (4-9-5, 20 points) Sunday evening at Dignity Health Sports Park, losing the ensuing shootout to head home with one point. Dylan Teves scored the lone goal for Defiance as the club kept its top spot in the Pacific Division and extended its unbeaten streak to seven games (4-0-3).
LA Galaxy II opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Jonathan Pérez slid a shot across the face of goal into the back of the net. The home side kept the lead until early in the second half when Fito Ovalle sliced a pass through Galaxy II’s defense to the feet of Teves, who took a few touches inside the area and fired a shot from a tight angle off the post and into goal in the 55th minute. Galaxy II keeper Novak Mićovic saved two of Tacoma’s attempts in the ensuing shootout to secure two points for the hosts.
Defiance goalkeeper Jacob Castro recorded nine saves in the contest, including a point-blank double save in the first half that kept Tacoma within striking distance.
Following tonight’s contest, Wade Webber’s side returns to Southern California next week to take on LAFC2 on Sunday, July 23 at Titan Stadium (5:00 p.m. PT / Apple TV).
