TUKWILA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (3-1-1, 11 points) defeated LA Galaxy II (1-4-1, 5 points) 3-1 Sunday evening at Starfire Stadium. Hal Udertiz recorded his fourth goal of the season while Paul Rothrock and Braudilio Rodrigues added strikes to bag all three points for the home side.
Udertiz opened the scoring with a penalty kick, tallying his second strike from the spot in the last two matches. After Eythor Bjørgolfsson drew a foul in the area, Udertiz stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner in the 42nd minute. It was the centerback’s fourth goal of the season, tied for sixth in MLS NEXT Pro.
Rothrock doubled the lead for Tacoma in the 69th minute. Rodrigues played a ball into Bjørgolfsson, whose shot was deflected right into the path of Rothrock. The midfielder stabbed home the rebound for his first goal of the year.
After Galaxy II pulled one back in the 78th minute, Rodrigues quickly answered with Tacoma’s third in the 79th minute. Travian Sousa found Rothrock in the area, who laced a pass to the feet of Rodrigues for the easy finish. The helper was Rothrock’s fifth of the season, most in MLS NEXT Pro.
Following today’s result, Wade Webber’s side travels to face Real Monarchs on Friday, May 5 at Zions Bank Stadium (7:00 p.m. PT / Apple TV).
