SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Tacoma Defiance (1-2-2, 6 points) drew with Earthquakes II (1-2-1, 4 points) 2-2 Monday evening at PayPal Park. Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez and Sam Adeniran scored the two goals for Tacoma, with goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley coming up with a big save in the following shootout to send Defiance home with two points.

Tacoma opened the scoring in the eighth minute courtesy of Ocampo-Chavez. A cross by Adeniran found the head of the First Team striker, who angled the ball downward and into the back of the net for his fifth goal in as many matches. The Merced, California native's five strikes on the year are tied for most in MLS NEXT Pro.

Earthquakes II leveled the game five minutes later when Ousseni Bouda pickpocketed Tacoma’s back line and finished the point-blank effort.

Adeniran gave the lead back to Tacoma two minutes later via a screamer of a goal, lining up a shot from just outside the area and curling the ball into the top corner. Bouda got his second of the night in the 40th minute, firing a shot of his own into the upper ninety to even the score before halftime.

Per league rules, with the 2-2 scoreline remaining for the rest of the match, the two sides headed to a shootout. Lapsley made the save on Maximilian Arfsten’s attempt while Tacoma converted all its attempts, giving the away side the 5-4 shootout win and the extra point.

Wade Webber’s squad returns home next week to take on the undefeated Houston Dynamo 2 on Sunday, May 1 (3:00p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
