Following the club's 1-1 draw against the Portland Timbers on Saturday night, Seattle Sounders defender Yeimar was named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday bench for Matchday 38.
Yeimar scored the Sounders’ lone goal of the night with a powerful header into the back of the net. The center back redirected midfielder Albert Rusnák’s corner kick in the 37th minute to give the home side the initial lead to close out the first half.
Along with Yeimar’s contributions on offense, his defensive efforts restricted the Timbers’ dangerous offense of Evander, Antony, Felipe Mora and Jonathan Rodriguez to just two shots on target. The Colombian international finished the match with 11 recoveries, 3 interceptions, 4 clearances and 8 duels won.
The Sounders return to action on Oct. 28 as they take on the Houston Dynamo at Lumen Field in the first match of the round one, best of three playoff series (6 p.m. PT; Watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
