Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempseystarted for the United States and recorded a hat trick against Honduras on Friday in the third round of the Hexagonal in CONCACAF 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.
Dempsey opened his account when midfielder Christian Pulisic played in a brilliant chipped through ball over the back line that Dempsey controlled off his shoulder before firing a shot into the top right corner while falling down.
Dempsey scored his second just after the halftime break off another beautiful through ball from Pulisic.
Dempsey completed his hat trick minutes later off a ridiculous free kick that beat helpless Honduran goalkeeper Donis Escober.
The goals are Dempsey’s 53rd, 54th and 55th for the U.S., which puts him just two behind Landon Donovan’s alltime record of 57.
