He's a goalscoring machine -- even in the offseason.
On Saturday, Sounders forward Clint Dempsey scored one of his most impressive goals of 2017 in a charity match in Houston. The celebrity soccer contest, called KickInForHouston, benefitted Hurricane Harvey victims, with all of the match's proceeds going to the relief fund. Organized by former Houston Dynamo and United States national team star Stu Holden, the star-studded rosters included Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Mia Hamm, Steve Nash and Dwayne De Rosario.
Of all the goals in the entertaining event - and there were plenty in the 12-12 scoreline - Dempsey stole the show with a bicycle kick in the 46th minute. The charity match was a success, with over $300,000 raised and counting.
Dempsey, a native of Nacogdoches, Texas, about 140 miles from Houston, earned MLS Comeback Player of the Year honors after scoring a team-high 12 goals during the regular season. He went on to add three more goals in the postseason, leading the Rave Green to their second consecutive MLS Cup berth.
