Clint Dempsey and the U.S. men's national team defeated Román Torres and Panama 4-0 in the penultimate match of FIFA World Cup Qualifying at Orlando City Stadium Friday night. With the win the U.S. now controls its own destiny in WCQ with a only a trip to Joevin Jones' Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday to go.
Torres started and played the full 90 minutes at center back for Panama while Dempsey replaced Jozy Altidore in the 71st minute. Dempsey entered the match needing one goal to surpass Landon Donovan as the country's all-time leading goalscorer and will look to break that record on Tuesday evening at Ato Boldon Stadium.
Three of the U.S.' goals came in the first half from Christian Pulisic and a brace by Jozy Altidore. Forward Bobby Wood then completed the scoring in the 53rd minute for the Red, White and Blue.
If the U.S. qualifies for the FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, it'll mark the eighth consecutive World Cup berth for U.S. Soccer.
