The Sounders FC U16s finished in a scoreless draw while the U18s fell 1-0 for their first defeat of the season in the USSDA Winter Showcase.
For the first time in 12 games, the Sounders FC U18 Academy team discovered how it feels to lose a game.
Playing at the USSDA Winter Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona, Seattle carried an 11-game unbeaten streak that saw them go 7-0-4, including a win on Saturday over South Carolina United.
That streak was halted on Monday with a 1-0 loss to Virginia Rush Auxerre in Seattle’s first defeat of the season.
Things got off to a rough start when defender DeAndre Yedlin was red-carded in the 20th minute. Even still, goalkeeper Rodney Greiling had a good day in goal, pulling off some fantastic saves. Seattle outshot Virginia 15-7, but the Rush managed a goal to walk away with the 1-0 victory.
The U16 side was led by the defense of Michael Gallagher and Ian Lange, while goalkeeper Connor Adkissonhad a solid day in goal to preserve the shutout. However Seattle couldn’t manage a goal of their own and had to settle for the 0-0 draw with Virginia Rush Auxerre.
The scorless draw moves the U16s to 7-2-2 on the year.
The two Sounders teams finish off the showcase against Lonestar FC Tuesday.
