After taking an early lead in the home leg of the Concacaf Champions League Semifinals against New York City FC, the Seattle Sounders conceded less than 10 minutes later. But Jordan Morris, who set up Albert Rusnák’s opener, restored the Rave Green’s advantage in a beautiful way in the 34th minute.
Cristian Roldan beat his man to the end line and cut back a dangerous ball to the top of the box. Morris, the winger on the opposite side, redirected his run and fired home a one-timed effort that rattled the back of the net past a helpless Sean Johnson in goal. The Sounders never looked back, adding a third via a Nicolás Lodeiro penalty in the 68th minute en route to a 3-1 home win. Morris’ goal and assist set the foundation for a favorable result in Leg Two, where Seattle walked away with a 1-1 draw and 4-2 aggregate win to reach the club’s first CCL Final.
Morris would score three times in eight CCL matches and was named to the CCL All-Tournament team.
