Sounders FC defender Taylor Graham visited the Somali Community Service Coalition (SCSC) in Tukwila, Washington for a Together We Play program visit on Wednesday, August 17th. Graham and a representative from Kibble and Prentice spoke to SCSC's youth members about healthy living choices, overcoming obstacles in life, and about their favorite team, the Sounders FC. After listening intently, SCSC's youth members organized a full scrimmage to showcase their own soccer skills with Taylor playing "neutral" on both teams. Each participant received a Together We Play t shirt and poster.
The mission of the Somali Community Services Coalition is to enhance the well-being of Somalis throughout King County, empower families and individuals, and preserve the community's rich cultural heritage. As part of their summer enrichment programming, the youth members play soccer at Starfire Sports Complex, home of the Sounders FC, every week.Â
Together We Play is a Sounders FC and Symetra Financial school initiative program that promotes the healthy development of youth. The Sounders FC and Symetra Financial encourage students to not only embrace a healthy and active lifestyle, but to also be active members of their diverse communities. Just as the Sounders FC players eat healthily and stay active to help their team succeed, the program asks students to do the same in their own lives - always striving to do and be their best selves! Through the Together We Play program, local elementary school students have a chance to hear firsthand how Sounders FC players follow these same principals on and off the field.
