The Seattle Sounders are traveling to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake this Saturday (6:30 p.m. PT; Watch on MLS Season Pass, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM) in their first group-stage match of Leagues Cup. Here are three matchups to watch:
Cristian Roldan vs. Andrew Brody
It’s clear Cristian Roldan’s presence on the pitch has a large influence in dictating how games play out for the Rave Green. Whether it be his ability to track back on defense or the way he moves on and off the ball in the attack, his impact in games is evident. Roldan will likely go head-to-head with defender Andrew Brody. The Homegrown Player has racked up 20 interceptions, while also tallying 4 assists for his team so far this season. He was also named Real Salt Lake’s 2022 Defender of the Year.
Albert Rusnák vs. Pablo Ruiz
Albert Rusnák continues to impress in the No. 10 role as he’s become a main component in creating dangerous goal scoring opportunities for the Rave Green. His combination plays down the left flank with Léo Chú were especially noticeable in the last match against FC Dallas. Rusnák will likely battle it out with central midfielder Pablo Ruiz. Ruiz has already made several accomplishments this season, most recently tallying a career-high of three assists in one match. He’s also been named to MLS Team of the Matchday on three different occasions this year.
Jackson Ragen vs. Danny Musovski
Jackson Ragen is a crucial piece to the Sounders defense. The Homegrown Player has become a consistent starter in the center back role this season, working alongside Yeimar to shut down any opposition that comes their way. Ragen will likely face up against forward Danny Musovski, who’s tallied five goals and four assists for Real Salt Lake so far this season. He was previously a member of the 2022 Supporters’ Shield winners LAFC before getting transferred last August to the Utah team.
