The Seattle Sounders are traveling to the Midwest to take on Minnesota United this Sunday (1:30 p.m. PT; Watch FREE on Apple TV & FOX, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM) in their second and final meeting of the regular season. Here are three matchups to watch:
João Paulo vs. Emmanuel Reynoso
João Paulo’s ability to make a difference on both sides of the pitch is unmatched. Whether he’s making big tackles in the Sounders’ defensive half or connecting key passes in the build-up of the attack, he continues to show game-after-game why he is considered the glue that holds the team together. He’ll likely go head-to-head with midfielder Emmanuel Reynoso. So far this season, he’s contributed to four goals and one assist for the Minnesota squad after having only played in eight regular season matches.
Raúl RuidÃaz vs. Michael BoxallÂ
Raúl RuidÃaz is arguably one of the best offensive players in Sounders history. Despite sitting out for a number of games this season due to injury, he ranks No.2 in goals scored this season for the Rave Green with 4. He’ll likely match-up with center back Michael Boxall. Boxall is a crucial piece to the Loons backline, currently leading the team in interceptions with 35.Â
Nouhou vs. Bongokuhle Hlongwane
Anyone who goes up against Nouhou has a tough time getting by him. Through his speed and ability to shut down players 1v1, Nouhou is a vital asset when it comes to preventing opposition goal scoring opportunities. Nouhou’s main opponent will likely be Bongokuhle Hlongwane. Hlongwane currently leads Minnesota in both goals (6) and assists (3).
