The Seattle Sounders are hosting Liga MX side C.F. Monterrey on Sunday (6 p.m. PT; Watch on FS1, UniMás & Watch FREE on Apple TV | TICKETS) in their second and final group stage match of Leagues Cup. Here are three matchups to watch:
Jordan Morris vs. Héctor Moreno
After finally finishing up MLS All-Star week and his international duties with the U.S. men’s national team, Jordan Morris will be in full form this Sunday as the Sounders take on C.F. Monterrey. Morris currently leads the team with nine goals and is looking to notch a few more over the weekend. Morris will likely battle it out with center back Héctor Moreno. Since 2021, Moreno has been a main component to Monterrey’s defense. He is also a member of the Mexican national team.Â
Nicolás Lodeiro vs. Sergio CanalesÂ
Nicolás Lodeiro is a vital asset when it comes to the Sounders’ build up in the attack. Lodeiro’s ability to recognize where to play the ball in crucial offensive moments is a big reason why he ranks No. 1 in key passes for the Rave Green this season with 45. He’ll likely go head-to-head with midfielder Sergio Canales. The 32-year-old player recently signed with the Mexican club in July after previously being with LaLiga side Real Betis. He is also a member of the Spanish national team.
Yeimar vs. Rogelio Funes Mori
Yeimar continues to represent what it means to be a brick wall in the backline. His effectiveness on defense is undeniable and his stats prove exactly that. He currently ranks No.1 in interceptions in the league with 54. Yeimar will likely face off against Rogelio Funes Mori. The Mexico international is a legend at Monterrey, tallying 126 goals in 254 matches since arriving in 2015.
