The Seattle Sounders are visiting Toronto FC on Saturday (4:38 p.m. PT; FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM) in their first meeting since MLS Cup 2019. Here are three matchups to watch:
Jordan Morris vs. Kosi Thompson
Morris has been a man on fire recently, with goals in back-to-back games and four goals and an assist in his last six matches for club and country. He’ll get a favorable matchup this weekend against 19-year-old rookie Thompson at right fullback.
Kelyn Rowe vs. Alejandro Pozuelo
With no João Paulo, Obed Vargas or Josh Atencio, Rowe has been filling in as a makeshift defensive midfielder alongside Albert Rusnák. The veteran Rowe will need to keep Pozuelo in his sights at all times, as the former MLS MVP is still one of the best playmakers in MLS. Much of Toronto FC’s attack runs through the Spaniard, and ensuring he stays off the score sheet will go a long way in heading back to Seattle with a result.
Jackson Ragen vs. Jesús Jiménez
The rookie Ragen will get another test on Saturday in the form of Jiménez, who has been one of the lone bright spots for TFC this season. The 28-year-old Spanish forward is in his first season with the Reds since joining from the Polish first division, and he’s tied for fourth in the MLS Golden Boot race with eight goals. Ragen and Yeimar will need to limit the amount of chances Jiménez gets because he won’t need many.
