The Seattle Sounders are hosting FC Dallas on Tuesday (7:08 p.m. PT; FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM | TICKETS) in a huge match with Western Conference playoff implications. Here are three matchups to watch:
Nicolás Lodeiro vs. Paxton Pomykal
The Sounders should have an advantage in central midfield, and they’ll need their captain to have a strong showing at home. Lodeiro has four goals and six assists his 17 MLS matches this season, and he’ll look for space against FC Dallas Homegrown Pomykal. The 22-year-old has started all but one of Dallas’ 23 matches this season and has contributed four assists while being a steadying presence in the middle of the park.
Nouhou vs. Paul Arriola
Nouhou will need to keep Arriola in front of him and not let the United States international pick up a head of steam. One of the best intra-league signings of the season after heading to Dallas for a record $2M in General Allocation Money from D.C. United, Arriola has delivered. The 27-year-old winger has nine goals and three assists so far this year.
Xavier Arreaga vs. Jesús Ferreira
Despite the loss in Los Angeles on Friday, Arreaga had a strong showing defensively. His main priority will be keeping United States forward Ferreira off the score sheet, something many teams have been unable to do this season. The 21-year-old is tied for fourth in the Golden Boot race with 12 and has chipped in an additional five assists. He loves to be on the ball in a nominal False 9 role, and where he succeeds is on late runs into the box with sublime finishing. Arreaga & Co. will need to monitor his movements at all times.
