Sweden national team Head Coach Janne Andersson has called in Seattle Sounders midfielder Gustav Svensson for upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying matches. The Blågult will host Malta on Matchday 3 at Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden, on Friday, June 7, at 11:45 a.m. PT before visiting three-time Euro winner Spain at Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid on Monday, June 10, at 11:45 a.m. PT.
Sweden is second behind Spain in Group F, going 1-0-1 through two matches. The Swedes defeated Romania 2-1 and drew Norway 3-3 in March.
The top two teams in each of the 10 groups will qualify for next summer’s UEFA European Championship. The final four teams of the 24-team tournament will be decided in a 16-team playoff format based on their performances in the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League. The semifinals and final will be held at Wembley Stadium in London.
Svensson has 20 caps for the Blågult, including two substitute appearances in the first two UEFA Euro Qualifying matches in March. He has one assist in eight matches for the Sounders this season. He just recovered from a hamstring strain and was back on the matchday roster as an unused substitute at Sporting Kansas City last weekend.
