Fresh off a 2018 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal appearance, Sweden has called in Seattle Sounders midfielder Gustav Svensson yet again. The Blågult will visit Austria at Generali Arena in Vienna in a friendly on Sept. 6 before hosting Turkey at Friends Arena in Solna in the first match of the inaugural UEFA Nations League on Sept. 10.
Svensson has earned 16 caps and has been a mainstay on manager Janne Andersson’s roster in the last two years. Svensson made three appearances in Russia at the World Cup, including one start in a 1-0 Round of 16 win over Switzerland. He came on as a substitute in wins over South Korea and Mexico in the group stage.
Svensson has two goals and one assist in 17 matches for the Sounders in 2018.
