For the second time this season, Sounders FC plays Vancouver Whitecaps FC twice in less than a week-long span. First, the Rave Green visit BC Place for the third and final regular season meeting between the regional rivals on Saturday. Not only would a win or draw give the Sounders their first Cascadia Cup trophy since 2011, but a positive result would give Seattle valuable separation in the crowded conference table. The Sounders currently hold a two-point cushion above the playoff cutoff line with five matches remaining. Next Wednesday, the two sides compete at CenturyLink Field in Seattle’s final Group Stage match of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. A win would send Seattle to the Knockout Stage for the third time in club history.
As the club prepares for Saturday’s crucial match, take a look at the latest coverage on the Rave Green:
- In The Guardian, General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey was interviewed for a story on potential instant replay in MLS.
- Lagerwey was also included in an article by Canada-based outlet The Province, which argued for more transparency in the way clubs do business with players.
- Northwest Cable News broadcasted a piece on Sounders FC captain Brad Evans, who walked around the Space Needle halo to benefit Fred Hutch.
- Matt Pentz of The Seattle Times featured Osvaldo Alonso, who announced earlier this week that he will be reunited with his father for the first time in eight years.
- Sounder at Heart posted a story on the audacious toughness of Zach Scott, who has been playing much of the season with a broken foot.
- S2 clinched a playoff berth with a 3-2 win at Starfire Stadium on Thursday night.
