The first major event marking the start of the 2022 MLS season, the MLS SuperDraft, took place on Tuesday, with the Seattle Sounders selecting Achille Robin from the University of Washington and Hal Uderitz from Seattle University in with the 43rd and 76th picks, respectively.
Seattle entered the day with the 20th overall pick in the draft, but ultimately traded it to the New York Red Bulls for $75,000 in General Allocation Money and their 43rd pick.
Born in Les Sables d’Olonne, France, Robin spent three seasons at Bowling Green University before transferring to the University of Washington ahead of the 2021 NCAA season. A 6’3” defender, Robin started 19 matches as the Huskies reached the College Cup Final for the first time in program history.
Hailing from Snohomish, Uderitz starred for four seasons as a midfielder at Seattle University under head coach Pete Fewing. In his final season with the Redhawks, he notched three goals and three assists.
The MLS SuperDraft has led to plenty of success for the Seattle Sounders over the years. Notable selections include current midfielder Cristian Roldan, as well as former player and current broadcaster Steve Zakuani.
After a quick offseason, the Rave Green will return to training camp this week as they begin preparations for Round One of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. Seattle will face off against FC Motagua of Honduras in a two-legged fixture, with the Sounders playing on the road on February 17 (7:00 p.m. PT) before hosting the second match on February 24 (7:45 p.m. PT) at Lumen Field.
