Seattle to play third-round game July 1 at PGE Park in Portland, Ore.
RENTON, WASH. – The Seattle Sounders FC will face the Portland Timbers in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup third round match on July 1 at PGE Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Sounders FC advanced to the Open Cup after defeating both Real Salt Lake and Colorado in MLS pay-in games.
Portland, a member of USL-1, posted wins over the Kitsap Pumas and Sonoma County Sol in earlier rounds.

In 2007 and 2008, the USL-1 Seattle Sounders reached the Open Cup semifinals. While playing in the A-League, the Sounders also made the semifinals in 1995.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation’s National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world.
