SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC today announced that it has signed University of Washington midfielder Dylan Teves as a Homegrown Player. The signing comes after Teves helped lead the Huskies to runner-up finish at the 2021 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship, scoring 12 goals and tallying eight assists during his senior campaign. Prior to his time at UW, Teves previously played for Sounders FC Academy. The contract covers the 2022 season with team options for 2023, 2024 and 2025.
“We are excited to add Dylan to the team as our 19th Homegrown Player,” said General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. “Being a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy on a team that made the Men’s Soccer Championship this year, he showed he is a good talent and we are looking forward to getting him into training camp soon.”
Teves, 21, joins Sounders FC after a four-year career with the University of Washington. One of the top players in the country during his senior year at UW, Teves was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, a College Soccer News First Team All-American, an All-Pac-12 First Team selection and the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year. He also was named a First Team All-American, All-Region First Team and All-Pac-12 First Team as a junior, finishing as semifinalist for the MAC Herman Trophy. He totaled 25 goals and 23 assists in 69 career games played as a Husky, amassing 1,757 minutes.
“We’ve enjoyed following Dylan’s career going back to his days with the Academy and then during his prolific career at the UW,” said Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer. “He’s earned this opportunity at the MLS level and I look forward to bringing him into camp."
Teves initially came through the Sounders FC Academy, joining the U-15 squad in 2015. He also played for the U-16 team, competing in the Generation adidias Cup before making 24 appearances for the U-19 squad, scoring five goals in his final season with the academy. The midfielder also made 12 appearances for Tacoma Defiance (then Sounders FC 2) while playing for the academy. Teves attended Liberty High School in Renton, Washington.
“Dylan is a tremendous player as he showcased during his time at UW,” said Senior Vice President of Soccer & Sporting Director Craig Waibel. “It’s always a great day when we can add a local player to our squad. We are ecstatic to welcome his talents and can’t wait to see how he can help this team be the best it can be.”
Teves becomes the 19th Homegrown Player in team history. He now makes eight on the current roster, joining Josh Atencio, Reed Baker-Whiting, Ethan Dobbelaere, Danny Leyva, Jordan Morris, Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez and Obed Vargas.
