FOXBOROUGH, MASS. – Seattle Sounders FC (4-9-4, 16 points) played to a scoreless draw with the New England Revolution (7-4-7, 28 points) on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium. After earning four points over its two-match road trip in Colorado and New England, Brian Schmetzer’s side prepares to face Supporters’ Shield-leading Atlanta United FC next Sunday, July 15 at Mercedes Benz Stadium (11:00 a.m. PT / FOX, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
In a match that featured just two combined shots on goal between both teams, Sounders FC was able to keep a New England squad that is 6-2-3 at home this season off the scoresheet despite being on the lower half of most of the stat sheet. The Rave Green saw its lone attempt on frame in the 73rd minute when Nicolás Lodeiro took an ambitious shot from just inside the center circle in an attempt to catch goalkeeper Matt Turner off his line, but the goalkeeper recovered well enough to reel in the long-distance shot.
Stefan Frei was forced to make just one save en route to his second shutout of the season. Sounders FC ranks fifth in MLS with just 22 goals allowed this season.
Following Saturday’s match, Brian Schmetzer’s side returns home for a week of training at Starfire Sports before traveling to face Atlanta United FC on Sunday, July 15 at Mercedes Benz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. PT and is being broadcast nationally on free-to-air FOX for the second time this season.
