Sounders FC passed on using the No. 15 overall pick in Stage Two of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Thursday, and longtime Sounders defender Leo Gonzalez went unselected as he continues to weigh the options on his career.
This marked the second straight year the Sounders passed on picking up a player in either phase of the Re-Entry Draft. The club also passed on their pick in Stage One of this year’s draft last week.
Only two players were selected during the Re-Entry Draft on Thursday. Defender Kevin Alston was selected by Orlando City SC with the No. 7 pick, and defender Jermaine Taylor was selected by the Portland Timbers with the No. 20 pick.
The fate of Gonzalez, meanwhile, is still undecided after the Sounders opted not to pick up the option on his contract earlier this month. He first joined the club in 2009 and told a media outlet in his native Costa Rica earlier this month that he likely would not play for another MLS team if he doesn’t re-sign with the Sounders.
