RENTON, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Steve Zakuani underwent successful sports hernia surgery on the right side on Tuesday afternoon. The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia.
Zakuani, 25, has started six games in league play this season, recording one assist. His last appearance was on April 20 at Colorado. Zakuani has nine appearances across all competitions in 2013, and assisted on the deciding goal in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. Overall, he has started 67 of 78 appearances in his five-year MLS career and is the club’s third-leading scorer with 17 goals.
Sounders FC returns to MLS action on June 22 at Real Salt Lake.
