SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC today announced a contest that will send one winner and a guest to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to watch the Rave Green take on Honduran-side CD Olimpia in the Group Stage of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) on Wednesday, August 26. The winner receives complimentary airfare, hotel accommodations for three nights at the Tegucigalpa Marriott Hotel, as well as tickets and transportation to the match, in addition to opportunities to join Sounders FC representatives and traveling supporters in community-building outreach events prior to the SCCL fixture.
Each $5 donated secures an entry in the contest, with no ceiling on the number of entries. All proceeds go to support the Youth Alliance Program in Tegucigalpa. Complete rules for contest entry can be found here.
In close partnership with the Seattle International Foundation (SIF), Sounders FC joins forces with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Creative Associates International to support Tegucigalpa's Youth Alliance Program - a regional network of community-run, youth centers dedicated to reducing violence, creating safe spaces and generating opportunity for learning, recreation and job training. Complete information on USAID and Creative Associates International's Youth Alliance Program in Honduras can be found here.
"The SCCL gives Sounders FC an opportunity to increase the scope of competition on the field as well as our impact off of it," said Sounders FC Director of Community Outreach Roger Levesque. "Soccer is a global game and we're in a position to leverage our passion for the game to make a lasting impact. We hope that this project is the beginning of a unique partnership with the Seattle International Foundation and a means to greater good through the sport we love."
While in Honduras, Sounders FC's outreach efforts include a field-refurbishment project at a Tegucigalpa Youth Center - one of the only safe public spaces for kids in the neighborhood to play soccer. In addition, Sounders FC coaches will team up with traveling ECS Supporters to run a youth soccer clinic at Estadio Nacional prior to the Wednesday night Champions League clash. An on-field meet & greet with Sounders FC players will round out the experience for the youth participants.
The winner of the contest will be announced at Sounders FC's match vs. CD Olimpia at CenturyLink Field on August 19. The following week, the winner and a guest will fly from Seattle to Tegucigalpa on Sunday, August 23 and return on Thursday, August 27.
Sounders FC continues its busy month this Sunday, August 9 with a nationally televised matchup against the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center (1:00 p.m. PT / ESPN, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
