As Seattle Sounders FC returns home to the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field this Saturday evening to host the first Cascadia Cup battle of the 2024 season against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM), the club plans to celebrate Pod Night, a special orca-themed match.
Geared toward families, fandom and a light-hearted celebration of Earth Month, Pod Night is set to highlight Sounders FC’s work to Protect Our Planet, with an emphasis on stewardship of the Salish Sea and its beloved orca populations.
In addition to the wide variety of matchday activities that fans can expect from a home match, on Pod Night Sounders FC is working with local experts from Seattle Aquarium to help educate fans about local orcas and how we can all take action to help their populations thrive.
Located in Lumen Field’s Olympic Hall, fans can stop by to learn more about orca conservation and take part in family-friendly activities such as exploring a life-sized inflatable orca, taking a photo in the Pod Night-themed photo booth, receiving free orca face painting and even meet and greets with Sounders FC’s own Sammy the Sounder.
Fans can also snag unique Pod Night gear on Saturday, with an exclusive Pod Night t-shirt and scarf available only on matchday at The Pro Shop at Lumen Field. The items feature entertaining artwork that puts a soccer and orca-themed spin on the kitschy “Three Wolf Moon” design of viral internet fame. Those in need of a ticket to the match can take advantage of a ticket combo offer, receiving a Pod Night ticket and a Pod Night scarf for $50.
Sounders FC’s popular orca tertiary mark is being used throughout the evening, along with various orca-themed education and entertainment on videoboards and throughout the match. Of note, ahead of kickoff special guests from the Seattle Mariners Salmon Run, King and Silver, make an on-field appearance. Representing the two salmon species that make up nearly the entirety of the diet of endangered Southern Resident orca pods, King and Silver visit Lumen Field for an educational moment.
Additionally on Saturday, young fans can sign up for **Sammy’s Pod Squad**, the new, free-to-join kids club for Sounders FC fans ages 5-12. Members of the kids club receive a free Sammy’s Pod Squad youth scarf and have the opportunity to participate in exclusive club experiences throughout the season. Sammy’s Pod Squad members can also unlock a special $19.74 ticket offer, presented by Arena Sports, that can be used to bring friends and family to Sounders FC’s upcoming youth matches on May 5 and September 15.
