SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC today announced that goalkeeper Stefan Frei underwent a successful minor surgery to correct joint alignment in his finger, performed by Dr. William Wagner on Wednesday, July 26 in Seattle. Frei, who began rehabilitation immediately following the procedure, is not expected to miss an extended period of time.
Frei, 37, leads MLS with 11 shutouts this season, two shy of the single-season club record that he set in 2017. In Saturday’s match at RSL, he tied Osvaldo Alonso for the most all-competition appearances for Sounders FC in the MLS era (339). Seattle concludes its Leagues Cup 2023 Group Stage action with a home fixture against Liga MX power CF Monterrey on Sunday, July 30 on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (6:00 p.m. PT / Apple TV – Watch Free, FS1, UniMás, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
