This April, Sounders FC is excited to celebrate Earth Month and continue to work to Protect Our Planet!
As an organization, we understand and embrace our role as leaders to continuously educate ourselves and our community about our collective impact on the region and its inhabitants. Together, we can work to combat environmental injustice and toward a more sustainable, healthier planet. We invite you to join us in our efforts this Earth Month, on matchday and beyond!
Black Earth Day with Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle
On Saturday, April 20 we will be joining the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle for their annual Black Earth Day event! The day’s celebration of Earth Day will include free workshops, giveaways for attendees and more in addition to a soccer clinic and ball giveaway hosted by RAVE Foundation. The event marks a return to the very first RAVE mini-pitch built at Yesler Terrace Park, an illustration of the club’s long-term commitment in its local communities.
The event runs from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, with Sounders FC and RAVE Foundation soccer programming and soccer ball giveaway from 12:00 - 1:30 pm! For more event information, visit the Black Earth Day event page.
Celebrate on Matchday
On April 20th, we are excited to host our Pod Night match, celebrating our community’s majestic orca residents who have inspired our club across the decades. Join us as we celebrate our unique ability to live and play at the Water’s Edge and highlight our club's continued work to Protect Our Planet.
For this special celebration, we’ve partnered with the local experts at the Seattle Aquarium to educate Sounders fans about our orca neighbors, and how you can take action to help their population thrive! Join us on Pod Night to learn more about the orcas we see in our local waters, the work the Seattle Aquarium and their partners are doing to help this endangered species, and how we all play a role in conservation.
Celebrating on Earth Day
On Earth Day, we are bringing together our friends from our fellow Seattle professional sports teams, Seattle Parks Foundation, King County Play Equity Commission and more to celebrate the investment of environmental and play equity at Concord International Elementary School in South Park. We’ll engage with students in an all-school assembly about the importance of caring for the environment and getting outside to play, as well as share the news of our leadership level donation to the construction of Puma Playfield – a brand new greenspace coming to the Concord campus in 2025.
Puma Playfield illustrates Sounders FC and RAVE Foundation’s commitment to Defend The Right To Play – one of the club’s four Arenas for Change. We’re thrilled for opportunity to bring free play and a lively new greenspace to this long under-resourced community that has historically suffered from negative health outcomes due to its location, lack of green space and tree canopy to filter environmental toxins.
Day of Service at Rising Star Elementary School
Alongside our long-term partner EarthGen, we are getting our hands dirty for our first service project of the year! Volunteers from the club will work hand-in-hand with students to assist in the stewardship of green spaces at Rising Star Elementary School in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. Sounders and RAVE are long-time partners of Rising Star Elementary, where we have joined EarthGen in garden bed restoration in the past — along with soccer clinics, themed assemblies and ball giveaways.
