Sounders FC and New England play to back-and-forth 3-3 draw at CenturyLink Field

Ruidiaz New England

SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC (11-7-6, 39 points) played to a back-and-forth 3-3 draw with the New England Revolution (9-9-7, 34 points) on Saturday afternoon in front of 38,826 fans at CenturyLink Field. Harry Shipp scored a brace, Nicolás Lodeiro recorded a goal and assist and Jordan Morris tallied two assists as the Rave Green earned a home point before embarking on a two-match road swing this upcoming week.

Seattle opened the scoring in the second minute courtesy of Shipp, who bagged his fourth goal of the season. The play started when Jordy Delem intercepted a pass in the defensive half and played Jordan Morris with a long ball down the left flank. Morris' left-footed cross failed to connect with an onrushing Raúl Ruidíaz, but rolled to the feet of Shipp for a strong finish.

New England responded with a pair of goals later in the half, beginning with a Michael Mancienne headed strike off a corner kick in the 27th minute. Eight minutes later, the Revs took the lead via new Designated Player Gustavo Bou, as the Argentine striker split the Seattle centerbacks to connect on a lofted cross from Edgar Castillo and finish with his head past Stefan Frei. Bou now has three goals in five appearances since joining MLS on July 10.

Shipp completed his brace in the 65th minute, heading in a cross from Joevin Jones at the far post to even the match at 2-2. Less than a minute later, Lodeiro gave the Rave Green the lead with a low shot from distance that rolled inside the far post, on an assist from Morris. Lodeiro and Shipp are now tied with Kelvin Leerdam for third on the team with five goals this season, while Morris' two assists on Saturday give him four in 2019, also third on the team.

Seattle kept a 3-2 lead until the 87th minute, when Carles Gil netted the equalizer via penalty kick after a Seattle handball inside the 18-yard-box. The 3-3 draw allowed Sounders FC to avoid its first three-match home losing streak since 2016.

Brian Schmetzer's side now embarks on a two-match road stretch this week, beginning with a Wednesday matchup at Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium (7:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). The club then heads to Southern California for a matchup with the LA Galaxy on Saturday, August 17 at StubHub Center (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN2, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
