BALTIMORE – Sounders FC Academy product and University of Washington goalkeeper Ryan Herman is headed to Texas after he was taken by FC Dallas with the No. 17 in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday.
Herman, a 6-foot-7 senior from Fall City, Wash., posted the PAC 12’s top numbers in each goalkeeping category during last season with the Huskies. He also posted an 88 percent save percentage (third in the nation) and recorded 10 shutouts (tied-sixth in nation).
He joins a Dallas team that eliminated the Sounders in the Western Conference Semifinals last fall before losing to the Portland Timbers in the Western Conference Championship. Jesse Gonzalez will likely enter preseason as club’s top choice in net after appearing in 11 games down the stretch last season and all four games in the postseason.
Nine-year MLS veteran Chris Seitz serves as FCD’s backup.
One of five Huskies to join the Sounders U23 team, Herman helped the U18 Academy side to the USSDA Northwest Division Championship in 2010-2011.
