SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC today unveiled the full schedule for its 2020 preseason, including training camps in Southern California and Mexico City. Additionally, Concacaf on Thursday morning announced the dates and times for Seattle’s Champions League Round of 16 matchup with CD Olimpia, with the first leg set for February 20 in Tegucigalpa before the second leg on February 27 at CenturyLink Field, with both fixtures set for 7:00 p.m. PT. Seattle currently has two closed-door preseason scrimmages scheduled – a January 22 matchup with Uruguayan side Club Atlético Peñarol in Southern California and a February 5 clash with USL side Sacramento Republic FC in Seattle.
The club's first day of official 2020 training is being held Tuesday, January 14 at the club's Starfire Sports practice facility in Tukwila, with fans able to watch the Rave Green train for the first time since winning the 2019 MLS Cup championship. Specific training times and media access windows are being announced at a later date.
After training at Starfire Sports from January 14-18, Brian Schmetzer's squad heads down to Southern California for training camp from January 19-January 29 at California State Univerity, Long Beach. Sounders FC is set to face Club Atlético Peñarol from Uruguay in a closed-door scrimmage on January 22.
The club then returns to Seattle for a brief stint before traveling to Mexico City on Thursday, February 6 for training camp at the Mexican Football Federation training facility. Prior to leaving for camp, Sounders FC hosts a closed-door scrimmage against USL side Sacramento Republic FC on February 5. The Rave Green will train in Mexico City until traveling straight to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to face CD Olimpia in the first leg of its Round of 16 matchup in the Concacaf Champions League, which is scheduled for February 20. Sounders FC will then return to Seattle to prepare for the second leg at CenturyLink Field on February 27.
Prior to the start of camp, Sounders FC begins its preparations with the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, with the first and second rounds being held on Thursday, January 9, and the third and fourth rounds on Monday, January 13. Seattle currently holds the 35th and 52nd overall picks in the second round and the 78th overall pick in the third round. This year’s SuperDraft will be conducted during a jointly produced MLS and ESPN show streamed live on Twitter, with a Twitter event card that includes the draft livestream and real-time highlights from the event all in one comprehensive experience.
Sounders FC is set to begin its 12th MLS campaign with a home match on Sunday, March 1 at 12:00 p.m. PT against Chicago Fire FC at CenturyLink Field. The complete regular-season schedule, along with the national and regional television schedules, was announced last week.
