Clint Dempsey has retired from professional soccer.
From a small town in Texas, the 35-year-old Dempsey took an unconventional route to stardom, going from Furman University to Major League Soccer's New England Revolution to a wildly successful tenure in Europe with Fulham and Tottenham, and then, finally, back home to the States with the Seattle Sounders. Along the way, he played in three World Cups and shares the U.S. scoring record alongside Landon Donovan with 57 goals.
