A draw from the U18 team and a win by the U16s signal a great start for the Sounders FC Academy on Saturday.
The Sounders FC U18 and U16 Academy teams opened their inaugural season on Saturday, taking on San Diego Nomads at Starfire.
While the U18 team is still looking for their first goal after one match, both teams remain unbeaten heading into their second match Sunday against San Diego Surf.
The U18 team had many shots on target from Sean Okoli, Darwin Jones, Jamael Cox and Troy Peterson and substitute Aaron Kovar ignited the offense in the second half, but they could not find the back of the net.
Ryan Herman finished the day with the shutout as the Sounders battled to a 0-0 draw with Nomads.
On the U16 side, the Sounders fell behind on a counter in the 7th minute, but fought back for a 2-1 win to start their program.
Ian Lange and Ike Crook scored for Seattle to earn the first win in Academy history.
The Sounders controlled much of the possession, but finally equalized on a corner kick in the 29th minute. Austin Sweeney swung the ball in and Lange put home the first goal for the Academy.
The 1-1 score held until midway through the second half when Crook tallied what proved to be the game-winner off a rebound in the 65th minute.
Both teams will hope to maintain their unbeaten starts Sunday at Starfire. The U18s kickoff against Surf at 10:30, while the U16s play at 1.
