Come watch Seattle Sounders FC as they face MLS newcomers St. Louis CITY SC at Lumen Field on Saturday, April 8!
ONE-TWO PUNCH: Thanks in large part to their dominance over the last two matches, the Sounders’ Jordan Morris and Léo Chú lead MLS in goals (eight) and assists (five), respectively. Morris already has a three-goal cushion in the Golden Boot race and is rapidly approaching his career high of 12 he set in 2016. Chú, meanwhile, has more assists in the last two games than he did in his previous 37 contests.
FREI IN FIRST: With a presumed nod in goal on Saturday, Stefan Frei will start his 323rd Sounders match in all competitions. He will move past MLS original and former captain Ozzie Alonso for first in the club’s MLS history.
SCHMETZER HITS 100: With last week’s victory, Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer earned his 100th regular-season win, becoming the fastest manager in league history to hit the century mark.
SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE: The Sounders enter the weekend tied for second in MLS in goals allowed, having conceded just three times in six matches. St. Louis, meanwhile, is tied for first in goals scored with 15.
RECORD-SETTERS: St. Louis CITY started their MLS tenure with five consecutive wins, breaking a record set by the Sounders, who opened with three straight victories in their inaugural MLS season in 2009.
SANTA KLAUSS CAME EARLY: Designated Player João Klauss has been a revelation for St. Louis, as his five goals are second in MLS behind only Morris. The 26-year-old Brazilian forward joined from German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim ahead of CITY’s expansion season.
SWISS COUNTERPARTS: Frei, who was born in Switzerland and received his United States citizenship a few years ago, will take on countryman Roman Bürki in goal for St. Louis. A former Swiss international and member of their 2018 FIFA World Cup squad, Bürki made a name for himself as Borussia Dortmund’s No. 1 from 2015-22. This will be Bürki’s second career match at Lumen Field, after starting in goal for the Black and Yellow in a friendly against the Sounders in July 2019.
