2023 RECORDS AND STANDINGS: Sounders: 6-2-2 (20 points, 1st West), SKC: 0-7-3 (3 points, 14th West)

FORM GUIDE (most recent first, MLS matches only): Seattle: DWLWW, Sporting: LLLLD

PREVIOUS MEETING: The Sounders defeated SKC 4-1 in Kansas City on March 25 behind a four-goal effort from Jordan Morris. After Willy Agada opened the scoring in the fifth minute, Morris and Seattle responded with four unanswered goals aided by a 63rd-minute red card to Ben Sweat.

AANHPI CELEBRATION: In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Sounders will continue their partnership with Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience. During the match on Sunday, there will be a pop-up museum exhibit at Lumen Field. Click HERE to read more about Seattle’s monthlong AANHPI initiatives.

MORRIS MAKES HISTORY: Morris set a Sounders MLS club record with his four goals and became just the third player in MLS history to score four times in an away match the last time Seattle took on SKC. It was also Morris’ second career hat trick, and he still leads the MLS Golden Boot race with eight tallies through 10 matches.

CHÚ SHINES AS WELL: Winger Léo Chú assisted on all four of Morris’ goals, setting a Sounders record as well for most assists in a single match. Chú is tied for third in MLS with five total assists on the year.

DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: The Sounders earned their sixth clean sheet through the first 10 matches of the season with their scoreless road draw at Real Salt Lake last week. Stefan Frei leads MLS in shutouts and Seattle is tied for third in the league with just seven goals conceded. That is the third-fewest goals the Sounders have allowed through the opening 10 matches in their MLS history (four in 2012; five in 2021).

JOÃO PAULO SUSPENDED: The Sounders will be without central midfielder João Paulo on Sunday, as the Brazilian will serve a one-match suspension for yellow-card accumulation.

TOUGH TIMES IN KANSAS CITY: Sporting is off to a historically rough start in 2023. They are the only winless team in the league and are last in MLS in goals scored (three) and goal differential (-12). SKC’s three goals scored are the fewest by any team in MLS history through 10 matches.

AGADA OUT: Agada, who scored against the Sounders in March, will be out three months after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his left tibia. The 23-year-old Nigerian joined SKC last summer from Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel and was Sporting’s joint-top scorer with eight goals in just 12 matches in 2022.

KINDA RETURNS: Sporting KC Designated Player Gadi Kinda made a substitute appearance against CF Montréal last week, his first game action since November 2021. The 29-year-old Israeli international midfielder missed all last season while battling knee a knee injury.
