JOCKEYING FOR POSITION: Despite entering the weekend just outside the playoff picture, there’s everything to play for in the West. A win on Sunday could vault Seattle from eighth to as high as fourth and a home playoff match.
ALL-STARS RETURN: Sounders attackers Raúl RuidÃaz and Jordan Morris rejoin the group after spending the beginning of the week in Minnesota for the 2022 MLS All-Star Game. Morris, who earned his first ASG nod, started for Head Coach Adrian Heath. RuidÃaz, meanwhile, came on as a 62nd-minute sub and scored the match-winner from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute to seal a 2-1 win for MLS over Liga MX.
HOME DOMINANCE: Despite falling to RSL in penalty kicks in the first round of last year’s playoffs, the Sounders have won 11 out of their last 13 matches at home to Real Salt Lake (including postseason) since 2013.
ROAD TROUBLES: That doesn’t bode well for RSL, which has yet to defeat a Western Conference opponent on the road this season (0-4-4). RSL has also only won one of its last eight matches overall (1-4-3).
BANK’S OPEN EARLY: Real Salt Lake has allowed nine goals inside the opening 15 minutes of matches, the second-most in MLS (CF Montréal). It’s been even more prevalent of late, occurring in five of RSL’s last seven matches, including three in a row.
SAVIOR SAVARINO?: RSL reacquired former attacker Jefferson Savarino in May, and he’s hit the ground running. He is tied for the team-lead in goals with five and has an additional three assists in just 749 minutes. The Venezuelan international spent 2017-20 with RSL, scoring 21 goals and contributing 21 assists in 82 regular-season matches before being sold to Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro.
