The Seattle Sounders are hosting the LA Galaxy in the penultimate home match of the 2023 MLS Regular Season. Here is everything you need to know:
WHEN AND WHERE: Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. PT on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (TICKETS).
WHERE TO WATCH: The match will be available to watch for free on Apple TV.
WHERE TO LISTEN: The match will air in English on 93.3 KJR FM and in Spanish on El Rey 1360 AM
2023 RECORDS AND STANDINGS: Sounders: 12-9-10 (46 Points, 3rd West), Galaxy: 8-11-11 (35 points, 13th West)
FORM GUIDE (all competitions, most recent first): Seattle: DWDDW, LA: DDWLD
PREVIOUS MEETING: The Sounders defeated the Galaxy 2-1 at Dignity Health Sports Park back on April 1, with Jordan Morris and Léo Chú each scoring in the first half to secure three points.
BACK HOME: The Sounders finally return to the friendly confines of Lumen Field after a lengthy three-game road trip. Five of Seattle’s last six matches have been on the road, with the Rave Green picking up nine points from those away fixtures.
ROUNDING INTO FORM: Seattle has not lost in its last six matches, with the last defeat coming against Atlanta United back on August 20.
UNBEATEN RUN: The Sounders have enjoyed plenty of success against the Galaxy in recent years. In fact, the Rave Green have not lost to LA in the regular season since the 2018 campaign.
MERCER ISLAND MAGICIAN: Jordan Morris has been dominant against the Galaxy, dating all the way back to his breakout performance on the road during his 2016 rookie season. The Sounders Academy alum has posted eight goals and three assists in 11 regular season starts versus the Galaxy during his career.
POSTSEASON IMPLICATIONS: A win at home on Wednesday would see the Rave Green clinch a spot in the 2023 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The Galaxy, meanwhile, need to pick up three points to maintain any hopes of climbing the table and qualifying for the postseason.
PUIG IN DOUBT: The Galaxy will likely be without the services of their talismanic No. 10 Riqui Puig. The Barcelona product missed out on their most recent match with a knock, and was listed as “very questionable for Wednesday” by head coach Greg Vanney on Monday.
SHARP SHOOTER: Midseason acquisition Billy Sharp has been extremely productive for the Galaxy, notching six goals and four assists from just 402 minutes of MLS action.
