With one match remaining in the 2017 regular season, here’s a look at a few records that are attainable for the Sounders to reach:
MLS RECORD
CONSECUTIVE POSTSEASON APPEARANCES (ACTIVE)
Record: 9 (Seattle Sounders)
Bottom Line: The Rave Green sealed their postseason fate for the ninth consecutive season, while LA Galaxy’s streak of eight consecutive appearances officially ended. Seattle is now one year shy of tying the all-time MLS record of 10 straight years (LA Galaxy, 1996-2005).
MOST POINTS SINCE 2009
Record: 479 points (Seattle Sounders)
Bottom Line: Since joining MLS in 2009, no one has more points than the Sounders, who recently passed the LA Galaxy for this achievement. Seattle has 479 points (136-90-71), while LA has 477 (131-82-84). With a win on Sunday, Seattle could guarantee the best record in MLS over the past nine seasons.
MOST FOULS SUFFERED IN A SINGLE SEASON
Record: 112 (Alejandro Moreno, 2006)
Bottom Line: Nicolás Lodeiro has suffered 104 fouls this season, which ranks third in MLS history. He has a chance at breaking the MLS record on Sunday.
TEAM RECORD
TEAM SHOTS IN A SINGLE SEASON
Record: 482 (2017)
Bottom Line: With one more match remaining, the Sounders have already set the club record for most shots in a season. The previous record, 470, came in 2014.
SHUTOUTS IN A SINGLE SEASON
Record: 12 (Stefan Frei, 2017)
Bottom Line: After a 4-0 win last Sunday against FC Dallas, Stefan Frei set a club record with his 12th clean sheet of the season. It's also the top mark among MLS goalkeepers in 2017.
ASSISTS IN A SINGLE SEASON
Record: 13 (Mauro Rosales, 2011 & 2012; Obafemi Martins, 2014)
Bottom Line: Midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro leads the team with 12 assists this season, while defender Joevin Jones has 11. The current record of 13 has been achieved three times – twice by Mauro Rosales and once by Obafemi Martins. It also marks the second time in club history that two Sounders have recorded double-digit assist totals in the same season (Martins –13 and Clint Dempsey – 10, 2014).
CAREER MLS GOALS
Record: 47 (Fredy Montero)
Bottom Line: Clint Dempsey sits just one goal shy of Fredy Montero’s club scoring record in league play. His 12 goals this season are his second most in a single campaign for the Rave Green after his 15-goal performance in 2014. Dempsey, who sits on 99 MLS appearances as a Sounder, is within reach to surpass Montero’s record mark.
FEWEST CAUTIONS
Record: 44 (2013)
Bottom Line: The Sounders have accumulated 41 yellow cards this season, which puts the club able to record the fewest number of cautions in a single campaign with two matches remaining. Nicolás Lodeiro, Osvaldo Alonso and defender Tony Alfaro lead the club with four cautions apiece in 2017.
MOST CORNER KICKS
Record: 190 (2016)
Bottom Line: With 177 corner kicks in 2017, the Sounders are closing in on the club’s single-season record, which was set last season. Nicolás Lodeiro has already shattered the club’s individual record held by Mauro Rosales and Andreas Ivanschitz (151; previous record – 100).
