Seattle Sounders midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro just missed out on Uruguay’s 23-man roster for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Uruguayan federation announced on Saturday. Lodeiro was part of the 26-man provisional squad called in a couple weeks ago.
Lodeiro, 29, has over 50 caps for La Celeste, including eight during this cycle of World Cup Qualifying. He was a part of Uruguay’s World Cup teams in 2010 in South Africa and 2014 in Brazil.
Lodeiro will return to the Sounders where he has two assists in five matches so far in MLS play.
