Seattle Sounders midfielder Gustav Svensson and Sweden defeated Russia 2-0 on Tuesday to win Group 2 of UEFA Nations League B and earn promotion to League A for the next Nations League tournament. Svensson entered for Viktor Claesson in the 80th minute to help secure the shutout.
Victor Lindelöf opened the scoring in the 41st minute before Marcus Berg doubled the lead in the 72nd minute. Sweden and Russia finished tied for first place with seven points each, but the Blågult won the group on the head-to-head tiebreaker. Turkey finished third in the three-team group and are relegated to League C.
Sweden join Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine and Denmark as promoted League B teams that have secured no worse than a playoff for the 2020 European Championship should they not advance automatically from the qualifying matches. The four promoted League B teams join Austria, the Czech Republic, Russia and Wales in Pot 2 for the Euro 2020 qualifying draw.
