It’s official: the Seattle Sounders are the first Major League Soccer team to win the Concacaf Champions League.
With an aggregate score of 5-2, the Sounders defeated Liga MX side Pumas UNAM in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 67,000+ fans on Wednesday night. Playing in the first CCL Final in club history, the Sounders secured the prestigious trophy that has eluded MLS teams since the tournament’s inception with a 3-0 score in Leg 2.
The Sounders are just the fifth MLS team to reach this stage of the Concacaf Champions League, and now will be the first franchise from the league to represent the United States and Canada at the FIFA Club World Cup.
