For the fourth consecutive week, Sounders FC holds the top spot in in the weekly Power Rankings for ESPN.com and MLSsoccer.com.
Following a somewhat disappointing result on Sunday, in which Seattle held a lead for 80 minutes against Atlanta United only to settle for a draw, national pundits and media remain bullish on the Rave Green’s prospects.
“They’re still the best team in the league,” wrote MLSsoccer.com’s J. Sam Jones. “A point is a point. But they’ll feel unhappy about gifting Atlanta a late penalty in a game where they scored early and then couldn’t add another.”
There are plenty of reasons to remain high Sounders FC, despite facing their first real hiccup of the season in Week 6. With a 5-0-2 record, the team is off to its best start to the regular season since joining MLS in 2009. And through those seven matches, the team has only conceded three goals, none of which have come from open play.
The Rave Green will host Austin FC (6:30 p.m. PT; FS1 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS) at Lumen Field on Sunday in the final match before a two-week international break.
